Humilde barro !
El más noble, el más difundido, el de mayor plasticidad fÃsica y estética de todos los materiales constructivos que han acompañado al ser humano desde los albores de la civilización… Qué otro material puede compararse contigo? Eres alegrÃa de constructor, refugio ambiental del desamparado, inspiración de artistas y mensajero de glorias milenarias, de miserias extremas y de pasada grandeza…

El más noble, el más difundido, el de mayor plasticidad fÃsica y estética de todos los materiales constructivos que han acompañado al ser humano desde los albores de la civilización… Qué otro material puede compararse contigo? Eres alegrÃa de constructor, refugio ambiental del desamparado, inspiración de artistas y mensajero de glorias milenarias, de miserias extremas y de pasada grandeza…
El presente artÃculo no pretende, desde ningún punto de vista, originalidad de conceptos y de redacción. Si algún mérito posee es la paciente conformacÃon de un “collage” de información, gráfica y escrita, capturada en diferentes regiones de la Internet, cuya referencia se incluye al final del documento.
2- PROPOSITO
La creciente conciencia ecológica a nivel internacional, unida a la revisión y actualización tecnológica de muchas de las tecnologÃas tradicionales de construcción está trayendo como consecuencia la revivificación de recursos valiosos que ya se pensaban permanentemente descartados. Es importante, por tanto, mantener una visión actualizada de lo que está ocurriendo en el área a nivel internacional.
El propósito de este microcurso es iniciar al participante, dentro de una primera aproximación, en lo concerniente al conocimiento y apreciación del barro, en sus muchas formas de participar como material de construcción, incluyendo, finalmente referencias que permitan a este participante proseguir su proceso de autoformación en el área aquà iniciado.

It happened in South-Africa. This summer. And it was thrilling. A whole month long, from 11 June to 11 July 2010, the world stood still, held its breath and nevertheless went wild – during the Fifa World Cup 2010. The Netherlands and Spain successfully reaching the final, the whole world was excitedly looking forward to the final between the two rivals. And finally, Spain, the acting European Champion, won the World Cup in an enthralling final in the Johannesburg Soccer City Stadium.

Two things were live at the event as well as at many matches of the past weeks: colourful vuvuzelas and the design-orientated nora® floor coverings of the Weinheim nora systems GmbH. What do both have in common with the national teams? They show commitment!
Where the so-called “Uwe Seelers” were popular among the fans on the stands and rocked the house in the direction of the field, the nora® floor coverings made of rubber led a calm, rather down-to-earth live. Far from the green lawn, the cheering of the fans and drumbeats, they are installed in the interior of the stadium premises, i.e. in the passage areas and numerous locker rooms. Two of the stadiums where they are installed were even exclusively used for trainings and acclimatisation of the teams during the World Cup 2010.
The nora® premium products were performing just as much as the footballers dribbling across the field – because they are extremely resistant and robust to the studs of the football boots, hits, kicks or other influences a floor covering must withstand not only in football stadiums. Because of their structure and composition they are specifically suited for highly frequented areas where they prove to be extremely wear-resistant and long-lasting.

They are also slip-resistant, foot-warm, permanently resilient, and combine a high walking comfort and good footfall sound absorption. They are furthermore classified as flame-retardant and do not contain any PVC, plasticizers (phthalates) or halogens (e.g. chlorine). In case of fire, no hydrochloric gas is released which might lead to caustic burns of the respiratory tract and might form hydrochloric acid in combination with fire fighting water. Last week the exhibition
Our Cities Ourselves: The Future of Transportation in Urban Life opened at the Center for Architecture,
running until mid-September . Organized by the
Institute for Transportation & Development Policy (ITDP) to mark their 25th anniversary, the exhibition gathers “ten of the world‘s leading architects* to show how integrating urban planning with transport can enable cities to thrive, while also combating climate change and managing population growth.” Each architect designed
visionary but practical solutions for ten cities on six continents, most in developing areas outside of North America and Europe. Their designs comprise the bulk of the show, alongside some hanging bicycles, a
becak , and a bus interior graphically depicted in one of the spaces. Not surprisingly, the focus of IDTP, if not the designers, is biking and bus rapid transit (BRT), in addition to the usual emphasis on walking.
